Emergency Food and Shelter Program
The Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) was appropriated supplemental funds under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act in FY 2020 in the amount of $200 million. Besides the CARES funding to respond to the COVID-19 impact on communities, the program was appropriated $120 million in FY 2019 and $125 million in FY 2020 annual appropriations. The total of these three appropriations awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) / Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to the National Board for the EFSP is $445 million.
Worcester County, MA has been allocated $295,021 in federal funds to supplement Emergency Food and Shelter Programs (EFSP) in the county. Federal funds are made available through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the National Board Emergency Food and Shelter Program Phase 37 funding cycle.
Worcester County, MA has been allocated $420,687 in federal funds in response to the COVID-19 impact on communities in the county. Federal funds are made available through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and are administer under the National Board Emergency Food and Shelter Program Phase CARES funding cycle.
This notice is to advise of EFSP funding opportunities, share the key program dates, and to advise agencies interested in applying for funds for both funding phases of the importance of obtaining a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number and Federal Employer identification Number (FEIN) as soon as possible, if they do not already have one. All agencies applying for EFSP funds must provide their DUNS and FEIN numbers in their applications. Any nonprofit, faith-based or local government agency that provides food and shelter services may apply for funds in one or both of the funding phases. EFSP Funds must be used to supplement food and shelter services and may not be used as seed money for new programs. Agencies may receive funds to provide food services; lodging in Mass shelter or in a hotel, motel or other off-site shelter facility; rental or mortgage assistance; utility assistance for heat, gas, electric, or water; and for supplies including cleaning supplies or small equipment purchases essential to feed or shelter people. Current or former EFSP participation is not required for participation. Interested agencies must submit an application to the Local Board in the jurisdiction where they are providing services. Each funding phase/fiscal year is considered new and funding to agencies is not guaranteed.
Agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) funds and CARES funds must complete an application available on May 18, 2020 at https://agency.e-cimpact.com, Organization Code 23520U through the United Way of Central Massachusetts.
