WORCESTER FREE TAX SERVICES INITIATIVE
Free Tax Preparation with VITA
United Way of Central Massachusetts is a proud partner of the Worcester Free Tax Service Coalition, which has provided free tax preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for over 20 years.
VITA helps eligible individuals—including those earning $60,000 or less, seniors, persons with disabilities, and limited English speakers—file their taxes accurately and claim valuable tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). IRS-certified volunteers ensure taxpayers receive the refunds they’ve earned, helping families reduce debt, save money, and invest back in the community.

What is the EITC credit?
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a federal tax benefit that helps low- to moderate-income workers increase their financial stability. Many eligible families miss out on this credit each year, leaving millions of dollars unclaimed that could strengthen local communities.
As part of the Worcester Free Tax Service Coalition, United Way of Central Massachusetts raises awareness about EITC, recruits volunteers for VITA sites, and provides financial education on budgeting and credit repair—all to help families build long-term financial security.
