Worcester Together fund sends $2.3 Million in recovery grants to 54 nonprofits

The Worcester Together fund has announced that more than $2.3 million in recovery grants is being distributed to 54 nonprofits that offer support including food, housing, health services and childcare amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fund, a joint effort between the Greater Worcester Community Foundation and the United Way of Central Massachusetts in partnership with the city of Worcester, was created at the start of the pandemic to support Worcester County nonprofits responding to the crisis.

“The initial shock of the pandemic may be behind us, but the threat of a resurgence will linger for some time,” said United Way of Central Massachusetts CEO Tim Garvin. “Facing this threat requires a strong non-profit sector with the resources they need for a sustained response to the pandemic.”

Organizations selected for the grants are providing food, housing, health services, childcare, arts, culture and more. They’re also supporting immigrant and refugee communities, according to a news release.

Totaling $2,350,000, the grants are part of the fund’s Phase Two response and are intended to support organizations’ general operations for three to six months as they plan for the future. Grantees will also have access to a range of technical assistance opportunities to help sharpen their planning, the news release said.
